🎨 AI that sees, hears and creates

Explore pixels, unmask deepfakes, discover AI creation — by Yann Isola

🔍 Pixel Explorer

How does an AI “see” an image? Answer: she doesn't see anything at all! She reads Numbers . Zoom in on this little cat to find out what an image is really made of.

🖼 🔬
Level 1 — The whole picture 🐱

For you, it's a cat. For the computer… we’ll see! Drag the zoom slider, or tap the image to inspect a pixel.

Touch a pixel of the image 👆

💡 What the AI “sees” at each scale:
1x zoom — You see a cat. The AI doesn't see anything yet: it just receives the complete grid of numbers.
Medium zoom — AI detects simple clues : contours, lines, spots of color.
Strong zoom — This is the truth: squares of color, the pixels . Each = 3 numbers (Red, Green, Blue, from 0 to 255).
The AI then goes back the opposite way: pixels → contours → shapes (ears, eyes) → “97% cat”. Like learning to read: letters → syllables → words!
🧠 To remember: the AI doesn't "see" like you. It calculates on a table of numbers and identifies patterns learned from millions of examples. No consciousness, no feeling — calculation.

🕵 The deepfake detective

Eight “photos” will appear (recreated here in illustration). Some describe scenes real , other pictures AI-generated with their typical faults. Will you be able to unmask them? Observe carefully the hands, texts, reflections, shadows and details

Score: 0 / 0

🕵 The 4 reflexes of the detective:
1. 👁 The details — hands, teeth, reflections, illegible texts, inconsistent shadows ⚠ (less and less reliable: AI is progressing!)
2. 🎬 The movement (on video) — strange blinks, lips out of sync
3. 📰 The source — who published? Are reliable media reporting on it?
4. 🧠 Common sense — strong emotion = check BEFORE sharing!
